Monolith and microservices

A monolith is one deployable unit: simple to build, test and operate. Microservices split it into independently deployable services owned by teams, which helps large organisations but adds network calls, distributed data and operational cost.

Where it shows up in real systems

  • Container service

Each replica gets a slice of CPU and memory, so you scale in small steps. The orchestrator restarts crashed replicas and spreads them across zones.

In production: Kubernetes Deployment, Amazon ECS on Fargate, Google Cloud Run, Azure Container Apps
