Interview Room

Your system design interview. For real, without the risk.

An AI interviewer gives you a vague subject. You ask your questions, estimate, and draw in the Studio while she pushes back. Then an outage hits your design, live. The hiring committee gives its verdict, with the replay.

  • 30 to 45 min against the clock
  • Voice or text
  • An outage simulated on your design
  • A verdict from a hiring committee

Prepare your interview

1 The level

Each plan opens the interviews of its level, and the levels below.

2 The subject

Vague on purpose, as in a real interview: the numbers that matter are yours to find.

How it goes

  1. Clarify

    The numbers are hidden

The subject is vague on purpose. Users, peak traffic, availability, budget: the interviewer only gives them when you ask. Each answer goes into your notes.

  2. Estimate

    Numbers, not impressions

Turn the answers into requests per second and set them in the Studio: the committee compares your estimate with reality.

  3. Design

    You draw, she pushes back

Your design is checked like a real deployment and priced on three clouds. The interviewer sees its weak spots and asks the questions that hurt.

  4. Twist

    An outage, live

A zone goes down, traffic triples, the primary database fails: the incident is simulated on your design, with the real traffic. You have a few minutes to react.

  5. Verdict

    The hiring committee

Your design replays every test of the level. You get a verdict, a score per criterion, the replay of your interview, the reference design and the exercises to do next.

Good to know

Who is the interviewer?
An AI with a character and priorities of her own, briefed on the subject's hidden requirements and on what your level expects. She never gives the solution.
Can I answer in writing?
Yes, at any time. Voice is a plus: your browser transcribes what you say, and the interviewer's words always appear as captions.
How is it graded?
The platform measures what can be measured: the questions you asked, your estimate, the tests on your final design, the bill against the budget. The AI committee reads the rest: the architecture, the trade-offs, the communication.
Who sees my interview?
You, and the Runbookly team to improve the Interview Room. Nothing is shared without you.
